Yet Another Reason Why I love The ESV- English Standard Bible

I love the English Standard Bible! This is the translation that I use in all of my preaching and teaching where I serve as pastor. The ESV is an accurate, clear, “author-intent capturing” translation, which utilizes the richness and poetic aspects of the English language while doing justice to the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek languages. Truly, this is the Bible for my life!

So what is yet another reason to love the ESV?

  1. It’s what we/I use as well at Providence Church. In many respects it’s like a cross between the NIV & the NASB. There are a few interpretative liberties they took, which I wish had not been done (e.g., gender neutrality), but I think it will be a good one for many years to come.

  2. Benjamin,

I too have been bitten by the ESV bug. We teach from it at Mosaic and Scottsdale Bible Church primarily uses it as well since Wayne Grudem’s arrival a few years back. Their newly hired and soon to be installed Sr. Pastor is still an NASV man but I’m all the way in with the Extremely Spiritual Version. Your journey through Mark has been fabulous … keep preaching the Word! We are going to do three weeks of OT foundation before launching into a series teaching all 13 of the minor prophets. I can’t wait! Dr. Steven Bramer taught me how to teach the prophets and I am forever in his quirky Canadian debt. Talk to you soon, keep reading that ESV. Besides, if it’s good enough for Gunny (what a great Marine Corps Name…) it’s good to go for me!

  3. Heath,

I hadn’t heard “Extremely Spiritual Version” before. I love it! But I love more that you’re tackling the Minor Prophets! That fires me up! May the Lord bless your time in the MP’s….They’re on my preaching calendar for next year if the LORD wills. Check out Dr. Chisholm’s books on them. Great resources.

    Benji
