He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. Hebrews 1:3
10 zillion years ago, the Lord knew what I did on Monday morning before our staff meeting. I went into our back yard and picked a random blade of grass. It was random to me, but 10 zillion years ago, Jesus knew that I would pick up that very blade of grass and take it with me to staff meeting. We have a name for this in the church: providence.
I love how the Heidelberg Catechism defines providence. And by His providence, it may be just what your heart needs today. So, take a moment to read this and meditate on it:
LORD’S DAY 10
27. What dost thou understand by the Providence of God?
The almighty everywhere present power of God, whereby, as it were by His hand, He still upholds heaven and earth, with all creatures; and so governs them, that herbs and grass, rain and drought, fruitful and barren years, meat and drink, health and sickness, riches and poverty, yea, all things, come not by chance, but by His fatherly hand.
28. What does it profit us to know that God has created, and by His providence still upholds all things?
That we may be patient in adversity; thankful in prosperity; and for what is future, have good confidence in our faithful God and Father, that no creature shall separate us from His love; since all creatures are so in His hand, that without His will they cannot so much as move.
Take courage, y’all. The almighty everywhere present power of God is directing every detail of your life. He knew 10 zillion years ago what you are going through right now. You can trust Him. So-
1. Be patient in adversity.
2. Be thankful in prosperity.
3. Have good confidence in our faithful God and Father.
